About Melissa Kady

Melissa Kady is a skilled artist and educator with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting and Art History from Ohio University, complemented by international art studies in Italy and Spain. She has extensive experience teaching art to diverse age groups, specializing in technical drawing, painting, and realism, with a focus on fostering creativity and personal expression. Her creative practice centers on abstract art, particularly recursion painting, as showcased in her thesis exhibition. This series of abstract paintings explored the concept of growth and transformation, with each piece evolving into its own unique entity as the series escalated.

Melissa's accomplishments include a 500 sq. ft. contracted mural for Holiday Inn Express and contributions to the "Scale" astronomy project, featuring a record-breaking charcoal drawing of the Milky Way galaxy. She has curated and organized exhibitions for the Kennedy Museum of Art, such as civil rights photography by James Karales and a permanent Native American weave works display, overseeing matting, framing, and gallery preparation. Melissa's artistic talent has been recognized through awards for excellence in drawing and painting during her academic career, along with a scholarship that supported her recursion painting series and the purchase of essential art supplies.

In addition to her artistic achievements, Melissa has developed innovative community art programs and workshops, including school-wide art galas and summer classes for children. These programs emphasized collaboration, artistic exploration, and creative growth, inspiring participants of all ages to embrace art as a transformative medium.

Artist Statement

My art reflects the pulse of life, drawing deeply from the natural and organic forces that sustain and connect us. These fundamental forces—essential for survival—imbue our existence with purpose and power, shaping the world around us. This connection guides me as I approach each new creation, blending the organic with the cultural to tell a story that resonates with life in all its forms.

My work often references organisms beneath the surface and forms that flow naturally, echoing the rhythm and vitality of life itself. At the same time, my choices are deeply influenced by the culture around me. The textures of daily life—the hum of urban spaces, the essence of shared meals, the elegance of natural forms, and the interplay of personal expression—quietly shape my creative vision, weaving depth and richness into my work. With an intuitive approach, I allow my work to evolve organically, embracing spontaneity and the unexpected. Through this fusion of natural and cultural influences, I strive to create art that captures the essence of life's resilience and interconnectedness.
